This trip to Kyoto brought encounters with many wonderful people and things. It not only allowed me to re-experience the essence of living well but also to witness the ancient capital's dedication to preserving and innovating traditional culture and crafts. What captivated me most at first sight were the *pochibukuro* (coin purses) personally crafted by a kimono artisan. Mr. Nakamura, a man of gentle demeanor and grace, has retired from the world of kimono making, but he continues to create *pochibukuro* using the kimono fabrics he has cherished throughout his life. ◾️【Premium Kimono Tsumugi Series】 The spirit of lifelong dedication is fully evident in the details and material selection. This piece features Kyoto's exquisite "Kanoko Shibori" hand-tied dyeing technique. Named for its resemblance to a fawn's spots, the hand-dyeing process is incredibly intricate and refined, resulting in unique patterns and colors. Consequently, these pieces are exceptionally rare and should be cherished as a "once-in-a-lifetime" treasure. Mr. Nakamura's *pochibukuro* stand apart from those made with synthetic fibers or cotton found elsewhere. Even accessories should be crafted with the quality of fine goods, able to withstand scrutiny. He uses superior materials, and as he says, "Use it gently, and the texture will become even softer over time." One can only say, Kyoto residents truly use fine things! It's no wonder they take pride in their city. We are grateful to Mr. Nakamura for agreeing to specially create a batch for us. I must be honest: compared to the myriad of *pochibukuro* available, the initial pricing might seem a bit steep. At first, I was merely drawn to its appearance and didn't pay much attention to the premium kimono fabric or the meticulously chosen clasp, taking it for granted. However, after bringing it home and using it, I truly understood its value. With every opening and closing, I can't help but marvel, growing to love it more with each glance.
