Anemone Botanical Print - Hand-drawn Poppy Anemone Flower Wall Art - Digital Portraits, Paintings & Illustrations - Other Materials

Product Description

Hand-drawn botanical illustration · Anemone · digital download (no physical item is shipped) I drew the poppy anemone — Anemone coronaria, the Mediterranean one, the showy one — fully open, with the dark boss of stamens at the centre given as much weight in the drawing as the petals themselves. The centre is the point. In most flowers, the centre is a detail; in the anemone, it is the subject. The dense, near-black ring of stamens surrounding the green ovary creates a darkness at the heart of the flower that makes the petals — in whatever colour, deep red or plum or magenta or white — seem to glow outward from it. The composition of the anemone is organised around its own darkness. The name comes from the Greek anemos, wind. The ancient story was that the flowers open in the wind and close when it stops — an account that is not quite accurate (anemones respond more to temperature and light than to wind itself) but which has made the flower a symbol of the evanescent and the brief since antiquity. In Greek myth, the anemone sprang from the blood of Adonis, which gives it its red. In Christian tradition it appears at the Crucifixion, which reinforces the association with blood and with a death that opens into something else. The poppy anemone grows wild across the Mediterranean basin — in Palestine it carpets hillsides in January and February, in Tuscany it appears at the field edges in March. It has been a cut flower since antiquity and is now one of the most widely grown floristry flowers in the world, cultivated in almost every colour the species can produce. SPECIMEN NOTES Poppy anemone (Anemone coronaria) — native to the Mediterranean basin, from Spain to Turkey, Lebanon and Israel; widely naturalised and cultivated worldwide Centre: the dark boss of near-black stamens surrounding a green ovary is the defining visual feature — as important compositionally as the petals Petals: technically tepals (as in magnolia and crocus), not true petals; available in red, pink, purple, white, and bicolour forms Name: from Greek anemos (wind) — the ancient belief that anemones open in wind and close when it stops Mythology: in Greek myth, the anemone sprang from the blood of Adonis; also associated with the Crucifixion in Christian tradition — hence the deep red association Season: late winter through spring (January–April depending on location); one of the earliest floristry flowers of the year Tuber: grows from a knobbly tuber, not a bulb or corm; the tuber can be difficult to identify which end is up (answer: the flatter side goes down) Cut flower: one of the most important floristry flowers globally; vase life of 5–10 days; grown commercially across France, Italy, Israel and Japan ON THE WALL, OR AS A GIFT At home this print suits a living room, a bedroom, a dining room, or any bold, warm interior that can hold a strong, richly coloured botanical. The anemone in illustration has one of the most dramatic colour palettes in the flower world — a deep, saturated petal colour against a near-black centre reads with great intensity. Against white walls it is vivid and present; against warm plaster or dark wood it deepens. In a thin black frame the centre of the flower echoes the frame; in a warm brass frame the colour of the petals is brought forward. As a gift the anemone carries the weight of mythology and a specifically Mediterranean beauty — it is for a flower lover, a gardener who grows them in pots in winter, a florist, someone with a connection to the Mediterranean landscape in winter and early spring, or anyone drawn to flowers with a dark centre and a complicated history. It makes a considered birthday gift, a housewarming present for a home that loves colour, or a rich and particular addition to a living room or dining room wall. WHAT YOU RECEIVE 2 high-resolution files — available to download the moment payment clears 1 PNG at 600 DPI — prints sharply at any size from A5 up to A2 / 5×7 in up to 16×20 in 1 print-ready PDF at 600 DPI — pre-formatted for clean printing with no cropping needed Both files work on home printers, professional print labs, and convenience-store multifunction printers Re-download from your Pinkoi account any time within 90 days HOW IT WORKS Complete your purchase Download the files instantly from your Pinkoi order page — no shipping, no waiting Save to your phone, tablet or computer Print at home, at a print lab, or at a convenience-store multifunction printer — 7-Eleven, FamilyMart and Lawson in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Japan handle these files cleanly Frame and hang PRINTING RECOMMENDATIONS Best result: matte or semi-gloss paper. Matte is closest to the feel of the original illustration — the texture reads as hand-drawn rather than digital. Semi-gloss gives slightly richer colour and more contrast. Paper weight: 200 gsm or heavier for a fine-art feel. Standard 80–90 gsm office paper works fine for a casual print or a test before committing to a frame. For exceptional quality, look for a local print lab that offers cotton-rag or baryta paper at 240+ gsm — botanical illustration on fine-art paper is close to the look and weight of an original drawing. The files are sized to print cleanly at both metric (A-series) and US standard sizes without any adjustment. Take the PDF to any print shop and ask for it printed at 100% scale. SIZE GUIDE A5 — 14.8 × 21 cm / 5.8 × 8.3 in — desk frame, shelf, or small accent wall A4 — 21 × 29.7 cm / 8.3 × 11.7 in — the most popular size; standard frames everywhere A3 — 29.7 × 42 cm / 11.7 × 16.5 in — gallery scale; makes a clear statement on a wall A2 — 42 × 59.4 cm / 16.5 × 23.4 in — large format; feature walls and wide corridors 8 × 10 in (20 × 25 cm) — US standard; sits well with a mat in an 11 × 14 in frame 11 × 14 in (28 × 35.5 cm) — US gallery size; fills a standard frame without a mat All sizes print at full 600 DPI sharpness. There is no resolution loss at larger sizes. DISPLAY IDEAS Natural wood frame for a warm, botanical feel — black frame for a more graphic, modern look A single print beside a window or above a shelf in a kitchen Two or three drawings in matching frames, side by side, along a corridor or bedroom wall Part of a gallery wall: botanical prints sit well alongside maps, photographs and typography Standing in a clip frame or thin acrylic on a shelf or desk, without a wall mount GIFT IDEAS A framed botanical art print is a considered gift for a housewarming, birthday, anniversary, Mother's Day, or Teacher's Day — for anyone who loves plants, cooking, nature, or botanical illustration. It arrives by instant download, which makes it easy to give at short notice: purchase, forward the file, done. FROM THE STUDIO Every drawing begins with biological study and close observation — the scientific name, the structure, the feature that makes this species itself. The work follows the tradition of European botanical illustration, where science and art are the same act. From a studio in northern Italy, near Lake Como.
