This is a Japan vintage kimono cape from the Meiji to Taisho eras.
The docyu kappa is said to have its origins in items worn by Spaniards and Portuguese who came to Japan around the 16th century.
Around the middle of the Edo period, coats began to be made using cotton, and were mainly worn as outerwear to protect from the rain and wind.
It is also mentioned in Mata Tabi and Utagawa Hiroshige's The 53 Stations of the Tokaido, and it seems that it was also worn as travel wear, which is why the word Dochu was added to the name.
In addition, there are very few of them in existence, and the number of them being discovered has decreased dramatically, making them difficult to obtain.
If you like docyu kappa, you know that it has fine details in the textile, size, and great specs.
Most docyu kappas have a single striped pattern, so it is relatively rare to find a checkered pattern like this one.
It is indigo dyed, and the deep vintage color is wonderful.
Also, the striped pattern is simple and good, and the stitching design on the collar is also great.
The appeal is that it looks like a cape, poncho, or cloak, and can also be worn as a fashion item.
It is also recommended for those who like designer brands and mode style styling.
Don't miss out on this opportunity as the number continues to decrease year by year.
*I don't know which one is the surface.
