The heartwood is yellowish-brown, hence its common name "yellow meat." It has been used for construction, carving, coffins, and furniture. Scraps can be ground into powder to make Taiwanese sandalwood or incense sticks, making it a truly precious wood. ・North American Maple: Inconspicuous growth rings, dense grain, with various figured patterns like wavy grains. Its color is an orange hue, warm like an incandescent light bulb. It carries a faint scent of maple syrup when shaved. ・Taiwanese Cypress: Emits an aroma similar to Japanese cypress, a beautiful wood with pinkish tones. The growth rings are narrow, and the wood grain is intricate. When a log is cut, the distinct contrast between the pink heartwood and white sapwood is visible. ・Taiwanese Huang Hui (Taiwanese Hinoki): Emits a strong, fruity aroma, rich in oil (hinokitol), and highly durable.
