During production, a clear protective lacquer is applied repeatedly, followed by multiple rounds of delicate sanding and polishing. This allows the lacquer to fill the natural pores and microscopic indentations on the wood surface layer by layer. After dozens of applications and polishings, a smooth, refined, and substantial high-gloss surface is achieved. This complex process not only makes the wood's natural grain clearer and more vibrant but also fully showcases the depth and dimensionality of the patterns. The finished barrel exhibits a warm, lustrous glow reminiscent of high-end automotive wood trim, highlighting the unique beauty of natural wood as light dances across its surface. Beyond aesthetics, the high-gloss surface provides excellent protection for the wooden barrel, reducing the impact of hand oils, dirt, and ink stains from daily use, making cleaning and maintenance easier. The nib uses a German BOCK #250 (#6) standard titanium nib, hand-tuned by Old Goat artisans into a calligraphy nib capable of creating line variation. Hand-ground calligraphy nib instructions: 1. For the calligraphy nib, it is recommended to start by dipping it in ink (do not remove the converter installed inside the pen barrel to prevent ink from flowing back into the barrel). Once you have adapted to the nib's characteristics, you may use the converter to fill it with ink. 2. The calligraphy nib is modified from an EF nib to have a curved, arc-shaped tip. Line variation is achieved not by pressing down on the nib, but by the angle of the pen. Use the curvature of the nib's tip to create different line widths. A steeper writing angle results in less contact area between the nib and paper, producing thinner lines. A shallower angle or slight pressure increases the contact area, producing thicker lines. Achieving this variation depends on your proficiency. (Each nib has a limit to the pressure it can withstand; avoid excessive force to prevent damage or misalignment.
