Our pottery is a collaboration between my husband and me, hence the signatures "Ping" or "Fan." What is the wood firing process?** American clay, Japanese clay, and Miaoli clay are mixed in different proportions. The creation process involves pure hand-pinching (not a potter's wheel) to gradually form the piece. After basic shaping, the lines of the body are refined, followed by polishing to complete the greenware. Once placed in the kiln, the piece undergoes a continuous five-day, four-night wood firing process using natural longan and acacia wood. The temperature reaches over 1200 degrees Celsius. During this time, natural ash deposits adhere to the work, forming a unique ash glaze. Simultaneously, the kiln's flames flow among the pieces, creating beautiful orange-red or blue-purple fire marks. After five days and four nights of ash and flame interaction, a week of cooling is required before a piece achieves its beautiful form! What should patrons be aware of?** Product colors may vary slightly due to photographic lighting. As works are purely handmade, they will inevitably bear traces of the making process. Minor variations may also occur during the firing process; slight irregularities in the rim or small production scratches are considered normal and do not affect usability.
