Introduction to Nanhong Agate Nanhong agate, anciently known as "red jade," possesses a fine and lustrous texture. It was largely depleted during the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty, leading to a sharp increase in the price of antique Nanhong agate. Ancient people used Nanhong agate in traditional medicine for nourishing the heart and blood. The "red pearl" (true pearl) among the Seven Treasures of Buddhism refers to Nanhong agate. To clean Nanhong agate, you can dissolve salt in water, then soak and wipe the agate. Due to its formation from volcanic eruptions, some Nanhong pieces may have natural fissures. While carving and polishing can reduce their appearance, they are often unavoidable (of course, Nanhong without fissures is exceptionally rare and commands exorbitant prices, or is a plastic imitation).
