Vegetable tanning is the earliest tanning method, using tanning agents extracted from plants like tannic acid. The process involves repeatedly soaking the hide in tanning solutions of varying concentrations, taking one to two months. Vegetable-tanned leather is free from harmful chemicals like heavy metals and can be in direct contact with skin, while retaining the leather's natural texture.
