"Nerage" is a technique where ceramic clays of various colors, pigmented with dyes, are kneaded together. Patterns are then formed by the centrifugal force and the stretching and shrinking of the clay when thrown on a potter's wheel.
The resulting patterns vary depending on how the clays are kneaded and the time and effort spent on the potter's wheel, allowing you to enjoy the unique chance of each moment.
For this piece, three types of ceramic clay, colored with red and navy pigments, were used.
The gentle, somewhat serene colors resemble the sky at dawn, tinged with hues of the rising sun peeking over the mountains.
The colors on the exterior and interior differ, resulting in a bowl with a gentle and intriguing aesthetic.
It is finished with a glossy transparent glaze and fired at 1250°C for a firm texture.
The rounded, plump form is charming, and the gentle curves fit comfortably in the palm of your hand.
With its shape widening towards the bottom, this bowl holds more than its appearance might suggest.
It's sufficiently sized for whisking matcha and also recommended for hearty dishes like soups and stews.
Please enjoy it in your preferred way.
All processes, from kneading the clay to shaping, bisque firing, glazing, and final firing, are done by hand in my studio, equipped with a pottery electric kiln and an electric potter's wheel.
As the pattern formation varies with each creation, no two pieces are exactly alike; each is a one-of-a-kind item.
The item you will receive is the exact one shown in the product images.
The base has been smoothed with sandpaper to minimize scratching your table.
I create a variety of ceramic pieces, exploring different glazes and clays to find the best combinations, in a wide range of colors and shapes.
These pieces are similar yet unique, as no two are ever made identically.
I would be delighted if you could find one that you love.
I hope you enjoy the simple, warm texture characteristic of ceramics, along with the unique colors of the Nerage technique, paired with your favorite beverage.

*Purchase and Usage Notes*
- Due to the porous nature of ceramics, they may absorb liquids, which can sometimes lead to staining within crazing or moisture seeping through.
Therefore, we apply a waterproofing treatment to our tableware using a sealant before shipping, so there is no need for a preliminary soaking (medome).
This waterproofing process requires 2-3 days, so we set the shipping period from order to dispatch at 5 days.
If you do not require the waterproofing treatment, please notify us at the time of purchase.
- The cutlery shown in the product images is not included.
- The bowl will appear whiter under morning light or white lighting, and may show more reddish or yellowish tones under evening light or warm-colored lighting.
- We strive to capture and edit product images to be as true to the actual item as possible. However, please note that colors may appear differently depending on your monitor environment and lighting conditions.
- As this item is also sold on other sites, in the rare event of overlapping purchases, the item will be prioritized for the customer who completes the purchase procedure first. We appreciate your understanding.
- While it can be used in a microwave (for reheating) and dishwasher, vibrations from microwaves and high-pressure hot water jets can potentially accelerate deterioration. We kindly ask that you refrain from using them as much as possible.
- Please do not use in an oven or over direct flame.
- After use, to prevent stains and mold, please wash thoroughly, dry completely, and then store in your cupboard.
