Artist: Kwood

Born in Hsinchu, Taiwan in 1983, with a background in craft design, the artist has traveled the streets of Japan, experiencing how wooden art injects warmth and deep vitality into ancient alleys. These objects, which feel like fragments of time, carry traces of history and the contours of the future, finding a delicate balance between contrast and harmony. They are transformed into exquisite works that tightly connect the vision of the new generation with the simplicity of the old. Agarwood, often ground into powder for incense in the past, is placed ceremoniously in the sunlit, prominent areas of homes in Japan, symbolizing vitality and light.
The agarwood is sourced from the place of origin, pure and flawless, free from artificial interventions like resin-soaking, drawn lines, or synthetic fragrances. It is presented in its most primitive form. Using ancient techniques, the bark of the dead wood is carefully peeled away by hand, revealing the true soul of the agarwood. This not only imbues it with timeless vitality but also allows traditional and modern craftsmanship to quietly intertwine at the fingertips, transforming into a visual and olfactory feast. The rich aroma is like a condensation of time, gently drawing together memories of the past and longings for the future, allowing them to meet and resonate in the fragrance, continuous, distant, and profound.
