Featuring scenes of Mount Fuji, temples, torii gates, pastoral landscapes, butterflies, irises, flying birds, and maple leaves, alongside a pair of lovers seemingly gazing at Mount Fuji, this small bracelet tells a rich tapestry of Japanese scenery. ▰▰▰▰▰▰AMITA▰▰▰▰▰▰ Founded in Kobe in 1932, Amita re-established its Damascene factory in Kyoto in 1946 after World War II. In 1952, the Japanese government officially designated Amita Damascene Co., Ltd. as an export retailer (duty-free shop), producing many items for export to the West. This allowed the curator to acquire some Japanese pieces from Western collections. The art of metal inlay, or Damascene, can be traced back over 2,000 years to the ancient capital of Syria, Damascus. It later spread to the Iberian Peninsula (modern-day Spain and Portugal) in the early 8th century with the Moorish invasions, and concurrently arrived in Japan via the Silk Road. The process involves using iron or a copper alloy as the base. Fine lines are incised on the surface, and then thin sheets of real gold and silver are meticulously hammered and inlaid to form patterns.
