The distinctive features of Lin Han-Wei's white porcelain seals:
I. A pioneering fusion of gold inlay and natural gemstone embellishment, with some gemstones fired together with the porcelain for a seamless, integrated finish – a first in Taiwan.
II. Drawing on her experience at the headquarters of FRANZ Collection and their Jingdezhen factory, Lin Han-Wei combines underglaze colors and gold decoration (fired gold) for her white porcelain seals. The gold detailing utilizes German Heraeus gold ink, hand-painted and fired (containing 12% real gold) at 800°C, imbuing the seals with rich color and dynamic variation, establishing a modern seal-carving style.
III. Fired at a high temperature of 1230°C, these porcelain seals boast exceptional hardness and resistance to wear. Once fired, they are permanently wear-resistant, making them significantly more durable than other stone seals. The underglaze colors are fired for permanence, ensuring they never fade. The porcelain glaze possesses a jade-like smoothness and delicate brilliance.
IV. The design of the porcelain seals transcends traditional seal knob forms, offering integrated, modern, and diverse styles. Their exquisite and delicate nature appeals to a wide range of individuals. They can be customized as personal seals, name seals, company seals, collector's seals, decorative seals, couple's seals, wedding seals, or image seals, making them ideal personalized gifts.
V. Each porcelain seal is handcrafted. The process includes clay molding, refining the blank, cleaning the blank, air-drying, seal carving, inlaying, bisque firing, applying underglaze colors, high-temperature glaze firing, and gold decoration firing. Each seal undergoes at least 3-4 firing cycles. Each firing requires a kiln time of at least 10 hours, followed by cooling. The intricate and labor-intensive process for each seal takes approximately three to four weeks.
VI. Due to the integrated nature of the porcelain seal's design, any damage to the carved strokes during the carving process necessitates a complete restart. This inherent difficulty and high risk underscore the preciousness of each individual seal.
