▰▰▰▰▰▰AMITA▰▰▰▰▰▰
Founded in Kobe in 1932, Amita re-established its factory in Kyoto in 1946 after World War II. In 1952, the Japanese government designated Amita Damascene Co., Ltd. as an official export retailer (duty-free shop), producing many items for the Western market. This allowed the proprietor to acquire some Japanese pieces from Western collections.
The art of metal inlay traces its origins back over 2,000 years to Damascus, the capital of Syria. It later spread to the Iberian Peninsula (modern-day Spain and Portugal) in the early 8th century with the Moorish invasion, and simultaneously traveled to Japan via the Silk Road.
The process involves creating a base of iron or copper alloy, etching fine lines onto its surface, and then meticulously hammering thin sheets of genuine gold and silver into these lines to form patterns. A layer of lacquer is applied and fired to prevent oxidation and rust of the base metal, followed by polishing. Finally, intricate micro-engraving techniques are employed before the piece is set into jewelry.
