I create my works based on the traditional Japanese craft of Ikkanbari. Ikkanbari is a method of covering a basket product with white washi paper, decorating it with colored washi paper or cloth, and finally applying persimmon tannins and water-based varnish. It is a craft that requires finishing. Many of the pieces use old fabrics and paper, but my work uses more everyday materials. This is a remake of an apron from Isanishiki Shochu, Kagoshima Prefecture. This piece is based on a basket made of PP tape and wire. The letters on the apron are cut out and arranged with Japanese patterned cloth on a black washi paper base, and the inside is covered with dark brown washi paper. The apron strings are also used as part of the design. A cloth drawstring bag is attached to change the look and hide the contents.
