**Japanese Prayer Beads (Juzu・じゅず)**
Among Japanese Prayer Beads (Juzu・じゅず), a common style is the "Katatejuzu (かたてじゅず)," meaning prayer beads designed to be held naturally in one hand, serving as daily protection and for formal occasions.
Japanese Prayer Beads are a personal item of protection originating from Buddhist culture and deeply embedded in Japanese daily etiquette. Unlike the 108 beads common in Southeast Asian or Tibetan Buddhism, Japanese Prayer Beads do not have a fixed number of beads or format. They often feature a "double-ring" or "single-ring" style, characterized by beads paired with a tassel symbolizing prayer (made of pure silk しょうけん or rayon じんけん) meticulously woven together, showcasing a calm and understated Japanese aesthetic.
In Japan, Juzu are considered "etiquette items" and are meant to be **"held" rather than worn on the wrist**. From children to elders, people of all ages carry Juzu on various occasions to show solemnity and offer prayers:
**Shrine Visits**: Praying for peace, health, and good fortune.
**Temple Visits**: Expressing reverence and seeking blessings.
**Celebrations (Happy Occasions)**: Weddings, prayers for safe childbirth, etc.
**Mourning (Funerals, Memorial Services)**: The most essential occasion in Japanese society, considered basic etiquette.
**As a Personal Amulet for Daily Protection**: Carried in a bag.
The Japanese understanding of prayer beads extends beyond religion; they are a "symbol of spiritual peace" and "etiquette," representing peace and protection, purity of mind, self-stability, prayers for good luck and smoothness, and expressions of gratitude and respect.
Japanese households typically own at least one set of prayer beads, and many people use the same set from youth to old age. In recent years, Japanese Prayer Beads have also become popular among younger generations and overseas travelers due to their understated, elegant design and traditional cultural aesthetic. They can be found in Japanese department stores, Kyoto's old shops, and around shrines, retaining their traditional style while also being perfect as travel souvenirs and gifts.
**Agate**
Agate, also known as "玉瓍," is primarily composed of silica from volcanic eruptions. It is a relatively abundant gemstone in the Earth's crust, making it one of the oldest gemstones in history.
When silica melt from volcanic eruptions enters the gas pores of volcanic lava or other rock fissures, it deposits layer by layer, forming opaque, translucent, to transparent colors, creating what is known as "banded agate" (layered and fine bands are called "silk agate"). Those with dot-like distributions resemble snowflakes and are commonly called "cherry blossom agate."
Agate is composed of various colors (mineral colors) and may form concentric circles, wavy patterns, layers, or parallel bands, hence the saying, "A thousand types of agate, ten thousand types of jade."
Agate symbolizes stable energy, which can calm emotions, soothe anxiety, enhance vitality and energy, strengthen personal aura and magnetic field, attract positive energy and good luck, boost fortune, and further enhance creativity and inspiration, leading to a flow of ideas during the creative process.
Due to its wide range of colors, agate corresponds to the seven chakras of the human body, making it a precious and beautiful gem with both historical value and functionality.
**Aventurine**
Aventurine, due to the presence of chromium mica inclusions, exhibits green mineral spots and resembles strawberry quartz, earning it the nickname "green strawberry quartz."
The primary country producing Aventurine is India, and its emerald-green variety is known as "Indian Jade."
Green primarily governs the energy of the heart chakra, enhancing mental strength and broadening one's perspective.
Aventurine is also known as the "Stone of Opportunity." It can regulate emotions, promote metabolism and blood circulation, symbolize good luck and auspiciousness, and help cultivate temperament and self-cultivation.

**◈ About Use and Care**
1. Natural gemstones possess natural luster and unique textures (tiny black spots, stone patterns, ice cracks, clouds, mineral deficiencies, asymmetry, and other natural details). With frequent wear, you will observe subtle color changes in natural gemstones, often making them appear more translucent and captivating, which is also the best form of care.
Natural organic gemstones (such as coral, amber, pearls, and giant clams) have low hardness and are not resistant to acids and alkalis. When soiled, avoid using detergents; clean with water and wipe with a soft cloth. You can also use a soft brush dipped in a small amount of mineral oil (like baby oil) for gentle care.
2. Metal jewelry has a long lifespan, but avoid external damage or strong acids and alkalis that can cause fading.
3. Fabric items (ribbons, cotton, gauze) are soft and comfortable to the touch and have a long lifespan, but avoid high temperatures, external damage, or strong acids and alkalis that can cause fading.
4. For any material jewelry, when soiled, wipe with a soft cloth dipped in water as appropriate, or use a suitable amount of neutral detergent for suitable materials. After washing, dry promptly.
5. When jewelry is removed, it should be properly packaged and stored, shielded from excess air to slow down oxidation and discoloration, and avoid overlapping or heavy pressure.
