A black Daron charm bead from a Burmese Buddhist temple pagoda. Year unknown, estimated to be from the 19th-20th century. It was already encased and set on a copper ring setting in Myanmar. This type of black alloy charm bead is vastly different from the commonly seen gold and silver Daron charm beads. It closely resembles Level 3 Leklai, a type of natural mineral. In fact, it is a special alloy smelted from over ten types of metals, similar to Thai Mekhala sacred items. Many Thai Buddhist sacred items are inherited from Myanmar. This black Daron alloy, when passed to Thailand, became Mekhala alloy. Due to differences in inherited alloy formulas, these black alloys also exhibit various shades of color and light refractions.
