As a natural material processed using vegetable tanning—a method that minimizes damage to the leather—it's natural to find minor "scars," "wrinkles," or "vein marks" on the surface. We carefully select our pieces during cutting to avoid these areas or place them on less visible or non-stress-bearing parts of the product. 2. Hand-Stitched Seams Our products are crafted entirely by hand, without the use of sewing machines. Before stitching, we use specialized awls to create precise holes in the leather, ensuring the beautiful, wave-like stitch pattern that distinguishes our work from machine-made items. While this process significantly extends production time, it's a crucial step where the artisan imbues the leather goods with soul and a warm, tactile feel. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges Before finishing, each edge is meticulously burnished. Our unique "Tangent Linear" method aims for smooth, rounded, and natural-looking edges. We begin by repeatedly sanding the edges with sandpaper until they are smooth, then apply a layer of edge sealant for a flat finish. This process is repeated 2-3 times, followed by a coat of edge wax. Finally, we use a burnishing tool to repeatedly polish the edges until they achieve a smooth, lustrous appearance. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For our hand-dyed items, "Tangent Linear" currently uses Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes imported from the USA. To achieve a uniform and natural coloration, we first dampen the leather surface. Then, using a sponge, we apply the dye repeatedly, gradually building from light to deep tones until the desired color is achieved. Once dry, a fixative is applied to enhance colorfastness. We also gently wipe the surface with water to remove any dust and further even out the color. As each piece is hand-dyed, subtle variations in color will exist between individual bags, making each one uniquely distinct.
