Material Selection All the cowhide used by "Cutting Line" is Grade A, high-oil vegetable-tanned leather sourced from Italy. As a natural material, and due to the low-impact vegetable tanning process employed by the tannery, the leather surface may inevitably bear minor "scars," "wrinkles," or "vein marks." We strive to avoid these during the cutting process or place them on less visible or non-stressed areas of the product. 2. Hand-Stitched Seams Our products are not made with sewing machines; all stitching is done entirely by hand. Before sewing, special diamond chisels are used to punch stitch holes into the leather, which is how we achieve the beautiful wavy stitch effect, distinguishing it from machine-sewn items. While this significantly increases production time, it is a crucial step where the leather artisan imbues the piece with soul and a gentle, tactile feel. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges Before finishing, the leather edges are burnished and sealed. This process ensures the edges appear smooth, rounded, and natural. "Cutting Line" employs its own unique edge-finishing method. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth the sharp edges of the leather. Then, an edge sealant is applied to create a flat surface, repeated 2-3 times. Following this, a layer of edge wax is applied, and the edges are then burnished repeatedly with a burnishing tool until they achieve a smooth finish. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For our hand-dyed products, "Cutting Line" currently uses imported Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes from the United States. To achieve even and natural coloration, we begin by dampening the leather surface with water. Then, using a sponge, we apply the dye repeatedly, layer by layer, from light to deep, until the desired color is achieved. After drying, a color-fixing agent is applied to enhance colorfastness. The surface is also wiped with clean water to remove any surface dust and further even out the color. As each piece is hand-dyed, subtle variations in color exist between individual bags, making each one unique.
