Q: What are iron scissors?
A: This is a trace left by an iron part called "wall lock". It is like a big iron nail, with one end inserted into the inner beam and the other end protruding from the outer wall. The protruding part is usually decorated in various ways, some look like scissors, and some are in the shape of a Y or I. In fact, the wall lock is an iron component used by ancient Dutch buildings to fix the inner beam and the outer wall. However, because Taiwanese people did not know its function in the early years, they regarded the wall lock as an evil-avoiding object or auspicious object on the wall. The scissor-shaped one is called "iron reamer", believing that it can avoid evil; the S-shaped one is called "Ruyi", which can bring good luck; the I-shaped one is called "iron ruler", which means being regular and upright.
