Material Selection The cowhide used by "Cutting Line" is exclusively Grade A, high-oil, vegetable-tanned leather sourced from Italy. As a natural material, and due to the minimal-impact vegetable tanning process employed by the tannery, the leather surface may inevitably bear minor "scars," "wrinkles," or "vein marks." We strive to avoid these during the cutting process, or position them on less visible or non-load-bearing areas of the product. 2. Hand-Stitched Construction Our products are not made with sewing machines; all items are meticulously hand-stitched. Before stitching, special awls are used to create precise holes in the leather, ensuring the beautiful, wavy stitch pattern characteristic of handcrafting, which distinguishes it from machine stitching. While this significantly extends production time, it is a crucial step where the leather artisan imbues the piece with soul and a warm, tactile feel. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges Before finishing, the leather edges are carefully burnished. This process ensures the edges appear smooth, rounded, and natural. "Cutting Line" employs its own unique edge-finishing method. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth any sharp edges. Then, an edge sealant is applied to create a flat surface, repeated 2-3 times. Finally, a layer of edge wax is applied and the edges are repeatedly buffed with a burnishing tool until they achieve a smooth finish. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For its hand-dyed products, "Cutting Line" currently uses Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes imported from the United States. To achieve a uniform and natural coloration, we begin by moistening the leather surface with water. Then, using a sponge, the dye is applied repeatedly, layer by layer, from light to deep, until the desired color is achieved. After drying, a fixative is applied to enhance colorfastness. The surface is also wiped with clean water to remove any surface dust and further even out the color. As this is a purely handmade dyeing process, subtle variations in color exist between each bag, making every piece unique.
