This powder Shino gold-gilded cup is crafted using a unique color glazing technique to achieve a soft, dreamy pink tone. With its elegant color, graceful form, and exquisite details, it exudes a romantic charm that captures the heart. It is an exceptional choice for both tea appreciation and as a collectible.
The glaze used is Shino glaze, originating from Mino, Japan, a white glaze primarily composed of feldspar. The artist applies this custom-blended Shino glaze to the vessel, resulting in a warm, soft texture with rich depth after firing.
The powder Shino style glaze is achieved by applying a specially formulated pink Shino glaze—or a blend of rouge, cherry pink, and milky white glazes—after the initial bisque firing. By precisely controlling the kiln temperature and the reduction environment, the glaze creates a romantic, beautifully diffused, and blended pink tone.
The interior of the vessel features a smooth Shino-glazed surface, which will develop fine cracks, known as 'kannyu' (crazing), as it comes into contact with tea over time. With daily use, the tea will gradually seep into these lines; after about a month, these patterns become visible, and after two to three months, the color becomes more pronounced, allowing you to develop a unique patina that belongs only to you.
The final gilding process involves hand-painting with 24K liquid gold (genuine gold) and firing to set the finish, resulting in a warm, subtle golden luster that shimmers beautifully in the light.
Works from yuhuayuart are dedicated to those who appreciate detail and quality in daily life, turning every tea session into more than just a simple act, but a continuation of enjoyment and refined taste.
Purchase Notes
1. Every piece from yuhuayuart is handmade by the artist, making each one unique—this is the true charm of handmade ceramics.
2. Each piece is one-of-a-kind and sold only once. If your desired piece has already been sold, please feel free to message us to inquire about similar works.
3. During the firing process, glazes may flow naturally, and fine crazing may occur due to temperature variations; these are characteristics of kiln-fired works. If you have any questions, please feel free to message us.
4. Works are photographed in a studio to represent their original colors as accurately as possible. Please note that actual colors may vary slightly, and minor color discrepancies are not considered defects.
Care Instructions | Gold-Gilded Works
Gently wipe the gold surface with a soft cloth. Avoid using abrasive sponges or stiff brushes, and do not soak in cleaning agents for extended periods. Do not place in a microwave (as metal can spark) or a dishwasher to prevent wear or peeling of the gold layer.
