Nerikomi Porcelain Plate - Charcoal Weave

Nerikomi, or 'marbled clay,' involves combining different colored clays. Like assembling a decorative sushi roll, the clays are layered into a long cylinder, then sliced to reveal multiple pieces featuring similar patterns, which are then hand-formed into a plate. Pieces created using this technique have a distinct characteristic: the pattern appears on both sides. Because of the process, the patterns undergo natural distortions during the flattening and rolling stages, resulting in subtle shifts and swirls as if the design itself is in motion. Crafted from Japanese porcelain clay and fired at 1230°C.
