We take off all the stitches of Kimono by hand to be one flat fabric, wash and iron the fabric, draw designs, sew to reborn the Kimono for UMUI. UMUI team designs and the sewing is in charge of Machiko(80) and Eiko(77) who are over 50 years experienced local seamstresses. Their wisdom and high skill are the key of UMUI collection. We have a warm respect for vintage works and former Kimono seamstresses. Each item has ingenious works in various corners of the items such as sleeves, front inner, collars, the pattern matching, balances and patch working. Those tiny efforts to save the material is our speciality. UMUI’ gift wrapping/box/packaging are all recyclable materials We aim to be human+eco-friendly for this project.
