About Wood Firing "Wood firing" is a traditional kiln firing method that reaches temperatures above 1200°C using firewood. The natural "fire marks" left directly on the clay by the wood, and the ash that naturally falls from the burning wood, give the pieces a warm, rich, and varied coloration – a realm unattainable by electric or gas kilns. Compared to ordinary electric and gas kilns, the entire wood firing process, from arranging the kiln, igniting the fire, sealing the kiln, to cooling it down, takes approximately 8-10 days. Furthermore, the intense kiln pressure in wood firing, along with factors like humidity, wood dryness, the speed of stoking, and kiln placement, can all affect the success of the artwork, leading to a higher damage rate. Experienced wood-firing artisans consider kiln airflow when arranging pieces, planning the placement of different sized works, estimating how the flames will rise, how to add wood and charcoal, and the precise temperature control. Intense focus is required at every stage to achieve a perfect wood-fired piece. Origin: Hualien, Taiwan Precautions 1. All pieces are handmade; textures and colors may vary. Surface irregularities such as bumps, micro-bubbles, variations in glaze intensity, and crackled textures are normal characteristics of handmade items and are not considered defects. 3. Each piece is stamped with the Ming Ya Kiln seal or inscribed by the artist (Teacher Rong-Zong Cai, Teacher Xuan-Hui Zhong). 4. Before first use, please wash with a sponge, mild detergent, and water. Do not heat directly over an open flame, and avoid drastic temperature changes. Suitable for microwave, oven, and electric steamer. 5. All items are photographed in kind.
