I follow a Facebook page dedicated to the history of wind bands in Hong Kong. Today, they shared a post about the Pui Ching Middle School Silver Band, established in the 1950s. Remarkably, they are still using instruments purchased when the band was first formed. This is a testament to how wind instruments can be passed down through generations, remaining functional even after 50 years. - It reminds me of my own time in the school band. When I first joined, I didn't have my own instrument, so I used one provided by the band. These were instruments that had already seen decades of use. While not perfect, and often in need of minor repairs, like loose screws or less-than-ideal sound quality, they were perfectly adequate for beginners. The band didn't discard these instruments because they held value. If something can still be used, why throw it away? - It's the same with pre-owned bags. Even with minor imperfections, as long as they don't impede daily use, they shouldn't be casually discarded.
