Original is honored to collaborate with Mr. Murata to present the "Cloud Dragon Foil Companion Pen." Crafted through the unique sulfidation properties of pure silver, the ascending dragon appears to part the enveloping clouds, showcasing the distinctive hue of silver foil. Traditionally, this technique was employed to evoke the profound sense of "wabi-sabi" found in classic Japanese aesthetics. Due to the high degree of skill and experience required for its creation, with the last batch produced over a decade ago, it has not been recreated since. Even among various foil types, "Cloud Dragon Foil" remains exceptionally rare. For this project with Original, the studio has extensively utilized its remaining stock of rare "Cloud Dragon Foil," infusing the piece with the refined beauty of Japanese traditional artistry in harmony with Original's brand identity. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52961570718_c7fcc70a1c_b.jpg About the Artisan Kohei Murata Born in Kyoto in 1977, he is the third-generation successor of Rakugei Studio, a Nishijin textile foil workshop. He is a certified Traditional Craftsman in the silk thread division of Nishijin-ori, designated by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry. Upon entering university, he apprenticed under his father to learn the "Hirahaku" technique, a distinctive feature of Nishijin obi fabrics. Beyond obi fabric design, he is also dedicated to creating artworks that incorporate architectural decoration and gold leaf using traditional techniques. Heisei 27 (2015) Recipient of the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award (Grand Prize) for the Hikihaku Fukuro Obi "Telescope Cherry Monkey Pattern" at the Nishijin Kimono & Obi Festival. Heisei 28 (2016) The Fukuro Obi worn by Governor Yuriko Koike of Tokyo at the Closing Ceremony of the Rio Olympics.
