**|░ Why You'll Love Tianshan Ice Jade ░|**
Tianshan Ice Jade has a long history of use in China. During the mid-Qing Dynasty, precious jade materials gifted by the rulers of Xinjiang were meticulously carved by imperial jade masters, leading to the popularity of ice jade vessels and ornaments during the Qianlong era. It became a jade material exclusively for royalty. The production of Qing Dynasty ice jade artifacts reached its peak during the Qianlong and Jiaqing periods. The historically renowned Emperor Qianlong had a particular fondness for jade, investing significant human and financial resources into the production and collection of ice jade artifacts, amassing a considerable collection. Many of the ice jade pieces currently housed in the Palace Museum in Beijing are from Emperor Qianlong's collection.
Tianshan Ice Jade is a high-grade quartz jade. While predominantly white jade, its texture is more translucent than soft jade. High-quality Tianshan Jade can even exhibit a texture akin to solidified jelly, hence its nickname "ice jade." As the primary production areas for ice jade are located in the Tianshan Mountains, jade from this region is known as Tianshan Ice Jade.
Tested by the Guangdong Provincial Jewelry Quality Inspection Center, Tianshan Ice Jade's warmth and smoothness are nearly comparable to Hetian jade, and its translucency approaches that of Burmese ice-type or even glass-type jade. High-quality ice jade, with its pure white and crystalline clarity, can exhibit fluorescence under sunlight, with a refractive index of approximately 1.54. Its hardness reaches around 7.0, and it has very few flaws or cracks.
Many jade enthusiasts, upon their first encounter with ice jade, mistake it for "water float jade," a co-product of Burmese jade. However, this is incorrect. Water float jade is quite brittle and lacks the same smoothness. Although it is also translucent in texture, it cannot compare to fine Tianshan Ice Jade; differentiation is possible by examining the raw stone or finished product.
In recent years, with the gradual depletion of Burmese jadeite mines, the declining output of white jade from the Hetian region, and the subsiding hype around Yellow Dragon Jade, Tianshan Ice Jade, after a long period of dormancy, has gradually returned to the market. It has once again become a popular jade stone in the Chinese jade market, both domestically and internationally, due to deeper market exploration and the continuous emergence of outstanding works by ice jade carving masters.
The basic properties of Tianshan Ice Jade are similar to those of single-crystal quartz. However, due to differences in crystallization, grain arrangement, and other factors, their physical properties vary.
Mineral Composition
The main mineral composition of Tianshan Ice Jade is quartz (SiO2), with minor impurities such as mica, chlorite, clay minerals, and limonite.
Chemical Composition
The chemical composition of Tianshan Ice Jade is primarily SiO2, with the possible presence of small amounts of elements like calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), and nickel (Ni).
Trace Element "Calcium" (Ca) is the most abundant mineral in the human body, mainly distributed in bones and teeth, with calcium also present in blood and muscles. Calcium is also a vital regulator of human life activities, playing important physiological roles at every stage of growth and development, from childhood to adulthood and old age. Calcium is an indispensable element for ensuring human health and longevity, a macro-mineral that the human body cannot lack.
Trace Element "Magnesium" (Mg) is also a macro-mineral that the human body cannot lack. Like calcium, magnesium is a necessary nutrient for maintaining normal bone growth. Sufficient magnesium levels can effectively regulate calcium and maintain normal nerve and muscle function, with both elements having a complementary effect. Magnesium can inhibit platelet aggregation, so a deficiency may increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Furthermore, magnesium deficiency can increase chronic inflammation in the body and is associated with the occurrence of many chronic diseases, particularly cardiovascular mortality. Some studies have shown that people who drink hard water, which has relatively higher calcium and magnesium content, have a lower mortality rate from cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, maintaining normal blood magnesium levels reduces the risk of atherosclerosis.
Trace Element "Iron" (Fe) aids enzymes in biochemical reactions and metabolism in the human body, making it an essential trace element. The adult human body typically contains 3 to 5 grams of iron, with six to seven tenths distributed in red blood cells. Other cells also require iron to function smoothly.
Trace Element "Manganese" (Mn) is another type of trace element that protects the body. Jade also contains this element. Long-term wear of jade can promote blood circulation, accelerate metabolism, alleviate aging, and prevent some age-related diseases.
Trace Element "Nickel" (Ni) is an indispensable trace element for the human body. The adult body contains approximately 6 to 10 mg of nickel, primarily found in the brain and liver. Nickel is absorbed in the human intestine, and unabsorbed nickel is mostly excreted in feces. Only 10% to 20% of nickel from food is absorbed by the human body.
Regularly wearing jade jewelry allows the trace elements within to be absorbed by the skin, aiding in the coordination and balance of physiological functions of the body's organs.
Nourishes the skin: Jade jewelry, whether necklaces, earrings, or bangles, can come into direct contact with the skin. The mineral elements in jade are thus absorbed by the body, nourishing women's skin and making them appear fairer and more radiant.
Relieves heat: The cooling properties of jade provide a soothing and heat-relieving sensation to the touch. In the Tang Dynasty, Yang Guifei would hold jade in her mouth during the summer to relieve heat and cool down. Since then, summer has become a time of cool refreshment. Jade pillows, bangles, beds, and pendants all serve to relieve heat.
