The horses depicted in the cave paintings of Lascaux, France, are believed to be European Wild Horses. Many scholars believe the Tarpan to be the ancestor of modern domesticated horses, while others consider them to be the same species. In the 19th century, due to reasons such as the large-scale development of grasslands and excessive hunting, the wild European Wild Horse became extinct in Ukraine in 1876. In 1880, the last artificially bred European Wild Horse died at the Moscow Zoo in Russia.
