✷ —— ↓ Frequently Asked Questions about Postcrossing & World Postcard Exchange ↓ —— ✷
**▍Q1: What is Postcrossing?**
A1: Postcrossing is an international postcard exchange platform. Register an account on the platform, and it allows you to "collect for free" postcards featuring different countries' cultures and interesting designs. Currently, over 210 countries participate in the exchange, with Taiwan ranking among the top ten for sending over a million postcards. Search for "postcrossing" to find many sharing and experiences online.
**▍Q2: Can I specify the type of postcard I would like to receive?**
A2: You can "make a wish" in your profile introduction. You might receive unexpected surprises from other users!
**▍Q3: Is it like sending a postcard to foreigner A, and after A registers receiving it, the system assigns foreigner B to send me a postcard, meaning we send and receive from each other?**
A3: If you send to foreigner A, and after A registers it, the system assigns foreigner B to send to you, then it's "not" a direct exchange. Until you receive a postcard, you won't know which country it's from; it's always a "surprise."
**▍Q4: Do I need to write the ID on every postcard?**
A4: Yes, you must remember to write the ID on every postcard. If a foreigner receives a postcard without an ID, some may post a "lost and found" notice in their profile, give up, or seek assistance from Postcrossing officials to identify your postcard.
**▍Q5: Where do I mail the completed postcards? Do I need to go to the post office and wait in line?**
A5: No, you don't need to go to the post office. Simply drop the completed postcard into a red mailbox on the street marked for airmail.
**▍Q6: Can I only send 5 postcards at the beginning?**
A6: Yes, new users can only send a maximum of 5 postcards initially. You can check your account to see how many postcards you are eligible to send. As you send more, you can send more postcards and will receive more in return.
**▍Q7: Can I set or specify the country of postcards I want to receive?**
A7: You can only set your willingness to receive postcards from Taiwanese users. For other countries, it's random, and you cannot specify.
**▍Q8: I keep entering the postcard ID from a foreigner incorrectly when registering, and I can't find the ID. What should I do?**
A8: Please pay close attention to the numbers "4," "1," and "7." Many foreigners write "4" like the Chinese character "ㄐ," and sometimes "7" has an extra stroke to distinguish it from "1." Also, check if the sender mentions their country and compare it with the country code. Sometimes the country code is written incorrectly. If you still can't enter it correctly, go to the "Help" section on the platform. Describe the postcard's image, features, or any clues like the date as best as possible. The resourceful officials can usually help you find the correct Postcrossing ID.
**▍Q9: How many days does it take for a mailed postcard to be considered expired? What happens if it's expired?**
A9: A postcard is considered expired if it hasn't been registered after 60 days. It will be marked as (expired) in your traveling postcard list. However, the official explanation states that postcards can still be registered successfully for up to a year (365 days). Furthermore, an expired postcard will disappear from your traveling postcard list after 365 days.
**▍Q10: My postcard is nearing 60 days since sending, and the recipient hasn't registered it yet. What should I do?**
A10: You can go to the foreigner's profile page. Below the map, there is an option to "send a message." You can politely message the foreigner to ask if they have received it. Also, check their last online time. If they haven't been online for a long time and are a new user, the chance of it not being registered increases.
**▍Q11: Where can I buy stamps for my postcards? How much postage is reasonable for sending a postcard from Taiwan abroad?**
A11: Due to character limits, this question is answered in the "Postcard Related Inquiry Tools" section above!
