Katakuchi Scarlet a

This katakuchi is carefully made on a potter's wheel using coarse Shigaraki clay that contains feldspar. The scarlet color that is characteristic of Shigaraki ware is produced in a gas kiln. The high temperature of the firing causes the coarse Stone in the clay to melt and come to the surface. Each Stone on the surface is polished by hand to a smooth finish so that it fits comfortably in the hand. This is a katakuchi serving dish that is perfect for serving food, and its scarlet color will enhance the food and make it an accent piece on the table.
