**> Categories**
Water-ground sand, Emperor sand, Purple Gold Sand, and Crystal Sand all belong to high-content quality cinnabar. Their **main differences lie in color, texture, hardness, and production methods**.
**「Water-ground Sand」**
**True red of Chinese red, with a slight orange hue. The surface has a warm, matte luster that will become brighter with wear, forming a patina.**
The production method involves repeatedly grinding fine cinnabar particles into a paste, stirring with water, collecting the upper "turbid liquid" after settling, and then allowing it to settle again (i.e., purification by water grinding). The cinnabar mud at the bottom is air-dried and then pressed using ancient methods. Fine mineral sparkles can still be seen on the cross-section.
**「Emperor Sand」**
**The color is a more vibrant true red, and the hardness is higher.**
The production method involves multiple processes such as **crushing/grinding/magnetic separation/water grinding/high polishing** from natural cinnabar ore to gradually purify it, and then pressing it using ancient methods. Emperor Sand has almost no mineral sparkles on the surface, but has them internally. The surface uses a **high polishing** process to present a metallic texture, especially in sunlight, where the metallic feel is maximized.
**「Purple Gold Sand」**
**The color is a purplish-red, and the hardness is slightly lower than Emperor Sand.**
The production method involves multiple processes such as **crushing/grinding/screening** from natural cinnabar ore, but **without water grinding purification**. Therefore, the surface is not as fine, and there are small, scattered mineral sparkles, giving a "starry sky" effect.
**「Crystal Sand」**
**The color is purplish-red and translucent.**
Large cinnabar particles are directly chipped from cinnabar ore. Large crystal particles are clearly visible on the surface. Under light, each particle is transparent, emitting a fluorescent red glow.
**> Spring Plowing and Autumn Harvest**
**All unfolding, all poetic, all beautiful things in this world often happen naturally, just like the changing seasons.**
**Learn to slow down, clear your mind, treat life with gentleness, revere the power of time, and let everything grow naturally, like a tree, growing with focus and without fear, developing clear growth rings.**
**Our craftsmanship is the same!!**
**> Cinnabar**
In the earliest written records, cinnabar was referred to by a single character, "丹" (dān). "丹" is an ideogram. Ancient people dug mines, and extracted minerals from within the mine shafts. Thus, the character "丹" is actually the character "井" (jǐng, well) with a dot in the middle, signifying something extracted from a dug mine shaft, and this something is cinnabar.
Because cinnabar is red, mostly a deep red, "朱" (zhū) also means red. Later, cinnabar was called "朱砂" (zhūshā). "丹" and "朱" describe the color, and "砂" describes the shape, meaning irregular granular minerals.
The color of cinnabar is unfading. Chinese calligraphy and painting are called "丹青" (dānqīng), where "丹" refers to cinnabar. Cinnabar is also the main component of "八宝印泥" (bābǎo yìnní), an indispensable ink pad.
From a Feng Shui perspective, cinnabar is collected from minerals that gather the essence of the sun and moon, absorbing the positive energy of heaven and earth. Therefore, cinnabar has a very strong yang magnetic field. We can observe that jade feels cool in the hand, while cinnabar feels warm.
Since ancient times, cinnabar has been used in Taoist rituals such as drawing talismans, consecration, warding off evil, and suppressing malevolent influences. Cinnabar has always been regarded as a supreme item for attracting good fortune, warding off evil, suppressing malevolent influences, inviting blessings, and accumulating wealth. It carries auspicious meanings of great fortune, wealth, and well-being.
The "Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing" (Classic of Materia Medica) lists cinnabar as a superior herbal medicine, often used in treatments for calming the spirit, detoxifying, and alleviating insomnia and excessive dreaming.
Living in modern times, owning one or two cinnabar artifacts can also cultivate one's character, nourish the eyes, and soothe the heart.
**> Identification**
**All cinnabar products in our store are high-content cinnabar with a strong sense of weight. You can use the following methods for identification:**
>. Burning cinnabar will turn it black. (Please heat it indirectly. It is generally not recommended to burn the finished product directly, as it is difficult to control the time and area. If it turns black after prolonged heating, it cannot be restored.)
>. Real cinnabar can draw orange-red lines on paper. (To avoid damaging the appearance of the finished product, please draw on an inconspicuous area or use the complimentary bead to draw.)
**> Care**
**If cinnabar jewelry does not have accessories made of metal, wood, or plants (such as Bodhi seeds), it can be lightly exposed to water, but it is not suitable for prolonged soaking, as this will affect its luster.**
**It is not recommended to get braided cord styles wet. After cleaning, they should be air-dried before wearing, as wearing damp cords can lead to excessive moisture, which is not good for the body.**
1. Avoid Corrosion
Cinnabar is a mineral and does not dissolve in water. However, frequent contact with chemicals such as soap and shower gel can corrode cinnabar.
2. Avoid Contact with Metal Objects
The mineral elements in cinnabar can absorb metal ions, causing irreversible dulling and blackening of the cinnabar.
3. Avoid High Temperatures
The mercuric sulfide in cinnabar only releases at temperatures of 380 degrees Celsius. Therefore, as long as cinnabar jewelry is kept away from high-temperature environments, it can be worn with peace of mind.
4. Avoid Collisions with Hard or Sharp Objects.
Cinnabar has high hardness and is brittle, so be careful to prevent drops.
5. How to Clean
If you find that the cinnabar is dirty, do not soak it in water, as this will alter its original luster! You can wipe it several times with a slightly damp cotton cloth and let it air dry for a while.
6. Oiling Method for Maintenance
Apply a layer of white tea oil or olive oil to the finished product, allowing the surface to absorb the oil and become more translucent and bright. If you apply oil and then seal it in a brocade box, you can wrap it with a common plastic film to prevent the oil from staining the brocade box lining.
7. Frequent Handling
Frequently handle the cinnabar jewelry worn on your body with your hands, allowing a very thin layer of oil to adhere to the surface. Over time, it will appear more antique and elegant.
The actual item is more exquisite and beautiful than the photos.
