This is an SDGs ring featuring Kintsugi, upcycled from ceramics by Fukukikama, a kiln based in Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture, known for its Kyo and Kiyomizu ware. Broken or chipped pottery, no longer in use, is upcycled and transformed into accessories with Kintsugi. The concept behind these pieces is to bring the beauty of nature and Japan's enduring traditions closer to you, creating modern accessories that connect to the future and foster new possibilities. We've paired fragments of hand-painted Kyo ware with red coral and prehnite. The sides of the pottery fragments are finished with Kintsugi, allowing the gold to beautifully accent the piece even from the side, adding a touch of refined elegance. The metal findings are made of brass with a 14K gold plating, making them hypoallergenic and resistant to tarnishing, ensuring they can be cherished for a long time. The ring size is 17mm (generally considered size 13 in Japan, depending on the brand), but it features an adjustable design, allowing it to be expanded for a comfortable fit for anyone. This work uses a modern, simplified Kintsugi technique. Unlike traditional methods using natural lacquer derived from the urushi tree, this piece utilizes adhesive for the primary bonding.
