This is an SDGs ring featuring Kintsugi, upcycled from ceramics by Fukukikama, a Kyo-yaki/Kiyomizu-yaki kiln based in Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture. Broken or chipped pottery that would otherwise be discarded is repurposed, adorned with Kintsugi, and reborn as accessories. The concept behind these creations is to bring the beauty of nature and Japan's enduring traditions closer to you, transforming them into modern accessories that connect to the future and unlock new possibilities. We've paired a fragment of floral Kyo-yaki with Carnelian. The sides of the pottery shard are finished with Kintsugi, allowing the gold to gleam beautifully from every angle, adding a touch of refined elegance. The metal fittings are made of brass with a 14K gold plating, making them hypoallergenic and resistant to tarnishing, ensuring you can cherish them for a long time. The ring size is 17mm (generally considered a size 13 in Japan, though this can vary by brand). It features an adjustable design, allowing you to expand the size, so it can be comfortably worn by anyone. This work uses a modern, simplified Kintsugi method. Unlike traditional urushi lacquer made from the sap of the lacquer tree, this technique uses adhesive for the primary bonding. The Kintsugi parts are created using lacquer (a manufactured coating, not raw urushi) and gold powder (brass powder, pearl powder), with UV resin also used for reinforcement.
