It was founded by Russian Jewish immigrants Michael and Joseph Chernow in Providence, Rhode Island, USA. They initially named their company Monocraft Products Co. The Chernow brothers operated under this name for ten years, producing their first jewelry pieces in 1929. The exact motivation behind the founders' eventual decision to name their jewelry Monet remains unclear. Perhaps they admired the works of Impressionist painters such as Édouard Manet and Claude Monet. The Chernow brothers' brand, Monet jewelry, made its debut in 1937. This brand is renowned not only for its particular affinity for "vintage" styles. With the help of Monet's masters, several revolutionary inventions related to the technical aspects of fashion jewelry were developed, which, incidentally, were patented. For example, they developed the ear-post earring, which replaced the clip-on style. Additionally, traditional Monet earrings featured a newly created type of clasp.
