Miniature with lace in Russian traditions - Wall Décor - Cotton & Hemp Multicolor

Product Description

I continue about lace. In Russia there were several techniques for making lace. These are making with bobbins, crocheting and knitting with a needle. Long ago, in childhood, my grandmother taught me to crochet and knit. In her house there were many beautiful things knitted by her. These are decorative napkins on the table and chest of drawers (just for beauty), a large square napkin-cape, which covered the pillows on the bed during the day, the edges of the curtains and bedspread on the bed were decorated with hand lace, the iconostasis was all decorated with lace and many more things, the names of which many people do not even know now. All these things were made by my grandmother in her youth. She told us that in the past, girls and young women would gather at someone's house on long winter evenings and knit lace, embroider, sew, knit and sing. In the summer, there was no time to do needlework, there was a lot to do around the house. Knitting and sewing were considered essential skills for women in Russia. Cotton and linen threads were used to make lace. Unfortunately, I can't tell you anything about cotton, where it came from and how it came about. But flax. It grew in that area. Flax threads were made by hand. The flax plant was harvested, soaked, dried, crumpled, and combed by hand. Then the threads were spun by hand. Very thin and strong. The threads were boiled in alkali to bleach and soften them. And only after this long preparation was lace knitted from the threads. Or clothing fabric was made on a loom. Very soft and pleasant. In the heat, such clothes were cool, and in the winter they retained heat well. To be continued in the following listings. In this miniature, I used cotton for the lace and linen for the base. Mercerized cotton in cream color and thin, slightly wrinkled, natural linen. These colors harmonize very well with each other. And they perfectly convey the style of Russian folk traditions in needlework. This miniature is well suited for decorating any room. It will add tenderness and comfort, softness and tranquility. The main element is a napkin with invisible stitches and is very firmly sewn to the base fabric, which is glued to a rigid base. For the final design, the miniature only needs to be inserted into a frame of the appropriate size and color, as for example in photo 1. For the indicated amount, you buy only the painting itself, without a frame. Dimensions of the painting: Width and height 20 cm.
