This tea bowl was made in my small pottery workshop in Taiwan. I used Japanese porcelain clay and then applied a black glaze. While glazing I dusted Japanese imported wood ash which resulted in a second glaze effect.
While the clay was still wet I altered the bowl by distorting the 'roundness' of the rim. I also made some indentations on the side of the bowl to add interest. I am inspired by the wabi sabi aesthetic, where you see beauty in the imperfection. This bowl is a soft attempt at this ideal.
The bottom section of the bowl is glazed in a snow-white crackle. My seal is stamped at the base, near the foot ring.
