Vintage white textured matt and high gloss cobalt blue porcelain vase.
Manufactured by Royal Porzellan Bavaria KPM, Germany, in 1950s
KPM Royal Bavaria, founded 1763, was the oldest factory that contributed to the West German pottery movement.
The company is strongly embedded in a history of porcelain, so much so that it strove to establish the medium as “white gold” in the late 1700’s.
Though founded outside of Germany, the company established a division in Berlin, operated from the mid-18th century onwards.
The origins of the West German pottery movement are founded in the Bauhaus School of Arts & Crafts.
While Bauhaus was known for being a creative breeding ground, the ceramics department was particularly experimental.
After WWII, the country sought out bright colours and vibrant textures to rejuvenate the culture.
