Several of Celine's recent reissued styles bear a strong resemblance to this vintage piece. The new models feature a large embossed logo created through mechanical pressing, while this vintage version showcases subtle, hidden stitching. Crucially, the vintage model is crafted from exceptionally soft lambskin or supple cowhide – genuine top-grain leather! In contrast, modern interpretations often use stiffer, chrome-tanned cowhide. The tactile difference alone is incomparable; the vintage piece offers a truly luxurious feel.
The shop owner has a peculiar fascination, perhaps a touch of collector's obsession, with certain styles, leading to an almost involuntary urge to seek them out. This particular series is one that captivated me. The understated stitching creates a prominent, yet discreet, large logo, complemented by a zippered camera bag design and a gleaming gold chain. It's both striking and subtle, understated yet distinctive! This is often the case with vintage pieces; each one is unique, making the chance of a "bag twin" virtually zero.
I believe a chain bag is an essential item for any woman's wardrobe, regardless of age. I personally own more than one. They transition seamlessly from more formal occasions to casual dates. The visual impact of a leather shoulder strap versus a chain strap is distinctly different. Even with the same bag, switching to a chain can elevate the overall aesthetic, making a chain bag a must-have. Furthermore, chain bags are incredibly versatile. For formal evening events or upscale dinners, an underarm bag worn with a simple, solid-colored dress exudes elegance. But don't mistake chain bags for solely "formal" accessories; they look fantastic in everyday wear too. Paired with cropped slim-fit pants, they offer a naturally chic vibe. My personal favorite combination is cropped jeans with a tank top or tee – simple, stylish, comfortable, and effortlessly cool. It can be sweet, elegant, or edgy!
The capacity is surprisingly generous, more than enough for daily essentials. It easily accommodates a large smartphone, a wallet (long, medium, or short), keys, a cardholder, tissues, and hand sanitizer. The chain is original brass, substantial and heavily plated with gold. It can be worn on the shoulder, crossbody, or as an underarm bag (by folding the chain). The remarkable aspect is that the original chain remains bright and golden, which is rare for vintage pieces, as they often show some dullness, discoloration, or fading. This one, however, is pristine, perfectly complementing the subtly bold yet understated large logo – a timeless classic!
Celine is now part of the LVMH group, and their current collections reflect a unified, group-driven aesthetic. There's a popular notion that anyone who buys pre-owned bags must have a Celine in their collection, given the vast array of unique vintage styles that minimize the risk of duplication. (Personally, I find new releases can't compare to vintage pieces due to significant differences in craftsmanship and material quality. Complaints about the declining quality of new items from major brands are easily found online...)
⚐⚑˒˒ The bag is in excellent condition, truly a beautiful piece. This camera bag is highly recommended – lightweight and practical! The front and back of the bag show only minor signs of use, with no noticeable scratches or scuffs. The marks are subtle textures on the leather itself, with no actual peeling or damage. It possesses a natural sheen. Even upon close inspection, there are no obvious flaws. The base, corners, and edges are free from significant scratches, scuffs, or wear; even the very tips of the corners are unmarbbed, remaining in perfect condition. Most importantly, the large logo area shows no loose or missing stitching. The logo is full and well-defined, appearing both prominent and discreet due to the black stitching. The zipper glides smoothly, and the original charm is still attached! (It's quite common in Japan for charms to be removed and sold separately... so its presence here is a rarity.) The hardware rings at the top where the chain passes through are clean and a beautiful golden hue, showing only minimal signs of use. The gold chain is original and also very clean, with only the slightest indication of wear. The entire chain is made of brass (a hallmark of vintage quality!), with no noticeable discoloration, oxidation, or loss of gold plating. The chain is detachable and can be repositioned. Don't underestimate this detail; you'll appreciate its convenience when using the bag. When worn crossbody, most people position the bag at the back, near the hips. When you pull the bag forward to open it, the chain usually moves with it, as most bag chains are directly attached to the body. This causes the chain resting on your shoulder to rub against your clothing as you pull the bag forward. However, this chain won't cause that friction! Because this bag's chain threads *through* the hardware rings at the top of the bag, rather than being *clipped* on, when you pull the bag forward to access its contents, only the bag body moves. The chain remains stationary, preventing it from rubbing against your shoulder or clothes. This might sound complex in description, but you'll understand the benefit of this small detail when you use it... The interior leather lining is clean, with only minor signs of use and no peeling or sticky residue. The interior zipper functions correctly. The brand tag is intact. Overall, the condition is excellent, with very light signs of use, and it comes with its original dust bag. Camera bag styles are both practical and charming! I personally adore the large logo stitching series; I even kept one for myself! It's spacious, beautiful, and unique.

The primary reason I love pre-owned bags is that the materials from older eras are vastly superior to those used in modern new releases. In the past, most pre-owned items were meticulously handcrafted, imbued with the warmth of human touch rather than mass-produced by machines. The skill of artisans was far more refined than any machine could achieve, much like how everyone appreciates handmade crafts. Today, the vast majority of production relies on machinery with minimal human assembly, losing that exquisite detail of the past. A simple, direct comparison can be made by looking at the monogram patterns on recent reissues versus genuine vintage monograms from older brands; the level of detail is worlds apart. If you love monograms, seek out pre-owned pieces!
In terms of style, older designs were typically simpler, timeless, and enduring. Many new styles today are actually reissues of older designs. However, new releases are often priced higher than their vintage counterparts. New designs usually build upon older models, adding details or altering the design, often resulting in a final product that is more complex (or sometimes peculiar...) than the original. As we mature, we realize that simplicity often endures. Our clothing choices tend to return to basics as we age because fundamental pieces are the most versatile.
The quality of materials in older pieces is undeniably superior to newer ones. Anyone knowledgeable about leather can see that the materials used in new releases are often of a lesser grade than vintage. This is largely due to the high cost and diminishing availability of premium raw materials; Earth's resources are becoming increasingly scarce. Furthermore, brands in the past didn't have the ubiquitous presence they do now, with numerous branches. Their clientele typically had a certain income level and high expectations for their purchases. There wasn't the "fast fashion" culture of today; a bag was expected to last for many years.
The difference between new and old hardware is striking. The hardware on many new bags oxidizes and discolors after just a year or two of use, whereas vintage pieces typically do not. This is due to both superior materials and meticulous craftsmanship. Early vintage hardware often featured real K-gold plating. It's worth noting that Chanel Vintage commands its price for a reason; many of its clasps and chains contain real gold, certified by gold merchants! This is why even vintage bags from the 1960s and 70s, if well-preserved, can still gleam today. Modern new releases, as far as I know, no longer incorporate K-gold in their hardware, making them more prone to oxidation.
Many people consider buying vintage bags a form of alternative investment, as they rarely depreciate and often appreciate in value. High-quality pre-owned bags are becoming increasingly scarce, with fewer appearing on the market each year. Remember, each one is a discontinued item; the number that exists is finite, meaning they will only become rarer, more expensive, and harder to find. Additionally, as brands periodically increase their prices, this often drives up the prices in the pre-owned market. When brands release "reissue" models, the prices of vintage reference pieces or similar styles can skyrocket. Moreover, with the recent trend of Japanese and Korean celebrities favoring vintage items, the price of a bag used by a celebrity can instantly surge. During such periods, many people frantically search for that specific model or a similar alternative, causing the prices of those few items to multiply... Therefore, vintage is truly a case of "buy early, enjoy longer; buy late, pay more" (this isn't an advertising slogan... it's a truth in the pre-owned world). This is based on my personal experience; I regret not acquiring certain collections earlier, and now they are either impossible to find or available only at exorbitant prices. Yet, even at those astronomical prices, one might feel compelled to purchase, as waiting will only lead to higher costs (unless the condition is poor).
I am often asked about bag maintenance (ᐢ.ˬ.ᐢ). I include small care instructions inside the bag, so don't worry. My personal routine involves giving my bags a polish when I organize my closet at the change of seasons (which makes seasonal tidying quite an undertaking... |||). Pre-owned bags aren't particularly troublesome; getting started simply requires getting into the habit of regular maintenance and cherishing your bag. Once it becomes a routine, it's not difficult. The materials in pre-owned bags are inherently excellent. As long as they are not used roughly and are stored properly, they can easily last another decade and be passed down to your daughter! I collect every pre-owned bag because I love it, and I hope you will too and continue to preserve it ☪︎ *.。
