๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ Popular, high-demand items often include a variety of randomly selected, already planted specimens. This is not a "one plant, one photo" listing. If you are concerned about the current condition of the plant, please message the designer for photos. ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
The 'Eagle Claw' is a succulent belonging to the Haworthia genus, known for its sharp, claw-like leaves that are tightly packed and adorned with small, raised white tubercles. It is shade-tolerant and drought-resistant, making it a perfect addition to any indoor space. The Eagle Claw bears a resemblance to the Haworthia cymbata, sharing their robust, claw-like appearance. However, the Eagle Claw appears less rigid than the cymbata and boasts a more vibrant, emerald-green hue.
It thrives in warm, dry, and sunny conditions, preferring to avoid low temperatures and excessive moisture. It is remarkably easy to care for and can even grow with insufficient sunlight. Overwatering should be avoided, as overly wet soil can lead to rot. During spring and autumn, increasing watering frequency appropriately will encourage rapid growth. In the heat of summer, it enters a semi-dormant state, requiring reduced watering. Watering should also be sparse in winter, with the plant kept in a warm, south-facing indoor location.
Light
Prefers ample indirect sunlight. During the hot summer months, avoid direct sun exposure and ensure good ventilation. It's important to note that while shade-tolerant, it still requires some light. Prolonged darkness can lead to plant deformation and etiolation (stretching), which takes a considerable amount of time to correct.
Temperature
Not cold-hardy. The optimal growing temperature is between 15-25ยฐC. It should not be exposed to temperatures below 10ยฐC. Above 30ยฐC, it enters a dormant state.
Watering
Follow the principle of "water only when dry, water thoroughly." Avoid waterlogging, which can cause root rot. Also, do not allow the plant to remain dehydrated for extended periods, as this can cause the leaves to shrivel. During the growing seasons of spring and autumn, allow the soil to dry out completely before watering thoroughly, approximately once a week. In summer, water lightly about every two weeks. In winter, water only after the soil has completely dried out. The actual watering frequency can be adjusted based on your specific growing environment.
Summer Dormancy
During the summer dormancy period due to high temperatures, the plant's growth will slow or stop, and lower leaves may occasionally dry out slightly. Throughout the summer, keep the soil moderately dry. Provide a small amount of water around the edge of the pot each month. The Eagle Claw is very robust and rarely suffers from crown rot. During dormancy, maintain just enough moisture to support the root system's slow or stopped growth; withholding water entirely due to high temperatures will significantly prolong its recovery. During dormancy, the plant may consume water and nutrients from some of its leaves, leading to dehydration and shrinkage of the lower or entire plant. Due to slow growth and high temperatures in summer, significant growth is rarely observed on the leaves.
Propagation
Common methods include division, cuttings, and sowing. Division can be performed during repotting, and is suitable year-round, typically in April or May. Carefully separate young offshoots from the base of the mother plant and pot them individually. After potting the divided offsets, place them in a shaded location and control watering. Gradually increase light and watering once new roots have established.
Flowering
The plant flowers in spring and summer, producing racemose inflorescences. Pollination requires different parent plants, though cross-pollination within the same genus is possible. If a flower stalk is not pollinated, the flower stalk can be pruned to prevent the plant from expending nutrients on it.
๐ Key Highlights: Shade-tolerant, drought-resistant, indirect light, ensure good ventilation, water only when dry, water thoroughly, approximately once a week.
