Product Description

**The first photo shows the item before cleaning.** ▰▰▰▰▰▰AMITA▰▰▰▰▰▰ Founded in Kobe in 1932, Amita re-established its Damascene factory in Kyoto in 1946 after World War II. In 1952, the Japanese government officially designated Amita Damascene Co., Ltd. as an export retailer (duty-free shop), producing many items for export to the West. This allowed the curator to acquire some Japanese pieces from Western collections. The art of metal inlay, known as Damascene, can be traced back over 2000 years to the ancient capital of Syria, Damascus. It was later introduced to the Iberian Peninsula (modern-day Spain and Portugal) in the early 8th century by the Moors. Around the same period, it also made its way to Japan via the Silk Road. The technique involves using a base of iron or copper alloy, into which fine lines are incised. Thin sheets of genuine gold and silver are then hammered and fitted into these grooves to form patterns. A process of lacquering and firing prevents the base metal from oxidizing and rusting. This is followed by polishing and the application of intricate micro-engraving techniques before the inlay is set into jewelry. ▰▰▰▰▰▰VINTAGE JEWELRY DETAILS▰▰▰▰▰▰ Brand: AMITA JAPAN Era: 1950s~1970s Materials: Soft iron inlaid with 24K gold and sterling silver patterns, fired lacquer, gold-plated alloy casing Dimensions: Approximately 3 cm in diameter Condition: Good.
