May Doll Armor Ornament

May 5th is Children's Day in Japan, a day to pray for the healthy growth of descendants and the prosperity of the family. The samurai helmets and armor given to boys, like the dolls given to girls, represent the wishes of the tribe members (family) to "hope that the children will grow up healthily" and protect the children throughout their lives. Therefore, these armors or dolls used as gifts are generally called May Dolls. - This armor is well preserved. The wooden dragon on the head is also in great condition. There is a little wear on the shin (foot guard). The paint on the right back of the lacquer box is slightly peeled. The grass fold (front guard) is designed with chrysanthemum pattern. The outer box is also exquisitely decorated. The size is medium.
