At the time, wristwatches did not use removable spring bars to attach the strap; instead, fixed bars were welded on. This required the strap to be a single piece that could be threaded through the fixed bars. The strap was also very long, serving a dual purpose as a bandage for soldiers to stop bleeding, truly a multi-functional item. Later, in 1973, this strap first appeared in the British Ministry of Defence Standard (Def Stan) 66-15 specification document. If military personnel needed a strap, they had to fill out a G1098 application form, and over time, they began to refer to this strap as the G10. However, because the specification document included a NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) Stock Number (NSN), indicating it was issued to NATO military personnel, it gradually became known as the NATO strap. This name was catchier and easier to remember, leading to the name we are familiar with today.
