<Nourishment from the Isles> Greeting Card / Formosan Sika Deer (Carnival Celebration) Taiwan was once a paradise for sika deer. However, due to human hunting and the rampant deforestation of plains and broadleaf forests, the last wild sika deer in Taiwan disappeared in eastern Taiwan in 1969. / Product Description & Story / This design concept originates from a concern for Taiwan's natural environment. It selects iconic Taiwanese endemic or endangered wild animals and depicts their original behaviors, diets, and ecological settings, delicately illustrating the forms of these protected species. The visual structure breaks away from the conventional horizon line perspective, employing kaleidoscopic symmetry and prism-like multiple viewpoints. The animals and plants within the imagery appear to be immersed in a vibrant carnival celebration, a scene of endless vitality. While seemingly harmonious, this visual presentation subtly conveys a message of ecological destruction, expressing care for the land and nature, and emphasizing the importance of our living environment. / Dimensions / L14.5 x W14.5cm / Material / Art Paper / Origin / Taiwan Kaleidoscope of Formosan Endangered Species The calendar is inspired by the damaged natural environment of Taiwan. Twelve iconical Formosan endangered animals are depicted according to their original habitat each representing the month they are active in real life. Instead of portraying these animals from a usual perspective, they are arranged in symmetrical and prismatical manner to form numerous colourful patterns of kaleidoscope. Animals and plants look as if they are ‘marching’ happily in a carnival, but when observing further, you will see each of them is carrying a bag and is going into exile. The industrial elements appearing in these images in an organic and pastoral palette show an ironical touch to the superficially ‘well-balanced’ ecological environment.
