National Museum of Scotland Louis Chess Piece King and Queen Earrings

Louis Chess (12th-13th century) The Louis Chess is the most famous collection of the National Museum of Scotland. These chess pieces were carved from walrus tusks between the late 12th and early 13th centuries and were discovered on the Isle of Louis 700 years later. These chess pieces were probably made in Scandinavia in Northern Europe and belonged to residents living on Louis Island. Among the 90 pieces found, four sets of chess were found. Although no chessboard was found when it was unearthed, it may be red and white, which is different from the black and white chessboard we use today. Nowadays, some of the chess pieces can be seen and displayed in the British Museum. It is this set of chess played in the movie Lee Potter.
