"Nishijin" is a general term for high-grade silk fabrics woven in Kyoto's Nishijin district.
"Kinran" (golden brocade) is named for its fabric patterns, which incorporate gold threads into ornate, embossed crests. It is an indispensable part of Japanese culture, used in the attire of monks, Kabuki actors, in theater, and at weddings.
