Vegetable-tanned leather is known for its firm and durable texture. The surface color gradually darkens. Combined with the natural oils from your hands and the friction from daily use, it develops a lustrous patina. This allows leather goods made from vegetable-tanned leather to evolve uniquely with time and the user's habits. Leather is a byproduct of the livestock industry. Therefore, farmers do not pay special attention to protecting the cattle's skin. As a result, cattle may experience insect bites, scratches, or punctures during their lives. Free-ranging cattle might also have branding marks. Growth lines and wrinkles are also natural as the animal matures. In cases of difficult births for cows, there might be surgical marks from C-sections. When the cattle are old enough for slaughter, skinning can also cause knife marks. These marks are faithfully preserved on the leather when it's processed, serving as proof of the animal's life journey. They often send the leather for surface sanding and coating, resulting in a clean appearance but lacking natural character. At DOZI Leather Studio, we generally do not avoid using these natural markings from the cattle unless they are excessively large. The resulting text will appear as a black, scorched mark. Therefore, this service cannot be used on dark-colored leathers such as black or dark blue. ▴ Some items require laser engraving before production. For ready-made items, laser engraving cannot be applied, and a separate production schedule will be arranged. Please contact customer service to inquire about production times when selecting this service. 🌞 Care and Maintenance -------------------- Frequent use is the best form of maintenance. Avoid storing leather in humid environments. If the leather accidentally gets wet, wipe it immediately with a dry cloth and let it air dry in a cool, well-ventilated area. Do not expose it to direct sunlight, as this can cause the leather to harden and deteriorate. Once dry, you can apply leather conditioner to replenish the leather's oils or use a waterproof spray to protect it from accidental spills. If the leather item is to be stored or not used for an extended period, place it in an electronic dehumidifying cabinet with humidity controlled between 50% and 60% to prevent mold. Alternatively, a sealed bag with a desiccant pack can achieve a similar effect. Cowhide is not excessively processed or coated, so there may be slight variations in color, texture, and minor scratches. If you require a perfectly flawless leather surface, it may be difficult to meet this expectation, and we regret that we cannot accept requests for "flawless leather." Furthermore, once personalized with engraving or laser carving, returns will not be accepted unless there was a production error.
