Why discuss "occupation" in Taiwan and Japan at this particular moment?
To explore the unique "Taiwanese-Japanese culture" born between Taiwan and Japan, what does "occupation" mean to us now? Whether in Taiwan or Japan, when introducing someone I truly appreciate to a third party, I often find myself struggling to articulate it clearly. While a simple explanation might suffice, it leaves me with an lingering sense of incompleteness. Sometimes, I even agonize over the choice of words: "What do you do?" or "What is your occupation?" It seems that existing professional categories and types fail to fully capture their unique charm.
I believe that both Taiwan and Japan are currently facing a period of significant change in the nature of work.
This issue of LIP uses "occupation" as its focal point to introduce the individuals we recommend.
