**Illustration Story** 【New Dishes】 In traditional Chinese culture, various dishes of fish and meat are prepared during the Chinese New Year celebration to symbolise prosperity and good fortune. However, this is impossible in our family as we are all vegetarians. Therefore, mum has to come up with new dishes every year. This year, there are chicken- and fish-shaped breads on the dining table. Mom proudly tells us that she did not even use eggs. The rest are just slightly more expensive vegetables. What? You are saying that pot of soup mum's holding is snake soup? Don't kid me, there's no way that thing will appear in our house. It's just a spoon that looks like the Loch Ness Monster. Judging from the colour of the soup, I can even tell you it's carrot soup. For us, Chinese New Year eve dinner means dressing up nicely to enjoy mum's new dishes. Our home is messy as usual, except that it feels a wee bit more like Chinese New Year. I like it very much, though.
