This tea bowl was made in my small pottery workshop on the roof of our apartment in Taiwan. Our view overlooks the Yamingshan mountains which are a constant source of inspiration.
This bowl was made from Japanese porcelain clay. I then applied a jet black glaze and just after glazing I dusted wood ash over sections of the bowl. During the firing to 1280 degrees, this ash melted and added an effect of fire hot orange. The glaze is best revealed in the sunshine.
I love making tea bowls as I find each develop their own personality on the wheel. They then go through a transformation while trimming and then after coming out of the kiln, have their final say.
Be the owner of a handmade tea bowl from the beautiful island of Taiwan.
