The ancient custom of collecting saliva is to string biscuits with a red thread and hang it around the baby's neck. The participating family members and elders take turns to take a biscuit and dip it in the baby's saliva or lips and gently wipe it, while saying auspicious words. Cookies are eaten by adults or elders, not for babies!
